Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box passes directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider handles the query and delivers its result. Burnett County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email message is kept as needed to prepare and send a response. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive routine technical information when a visitor loads a page:
- Page-view dates and times
- The browser name and version
- A device's assigned IP address
- The referring website, when one is supplied
- Device category and operating system
- Pages opened and the time spent on them
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They help measure which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics vendors combine this information into site-use reports. Browser controls can refuse cookies, although blocking them may change how some features operate.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a query to the selected outside search provider
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Maintaining site availability, performance, and speed
- Understanding which information readers use most
- Presenting advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Burnett County Criminal History neither builds nor sells a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records held by the Burnett County Sheriff, Circuit Court, Wisconsin DOJ Crime Information Bureau, and Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal file.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search boxes. Their privacy policies, rather than this policy, govern information placed in those tools. Each provider controls its retention and disclosure rules. Review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to sheriff pages, Wisconsin court portals, state agencies, legal resources, and outside tools. Once a visitor leaves our domain, the destination's privacy policy applies. Check it before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers use activity across more than one website to select ads. Their systems perform that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and site performance
- Outside search companies processing a submitted query
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- A government or law-enforcement authority acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Standard safeguards are used for collected information. No internet service is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If such information is identified, we will remove it after notice.
Your Data Rights
Rights may differ by residence. Wisconsin Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31-19.39, governs records held by Wisconsin public authorities, but it does not turn this private website into a records custodian. At a minimum, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of personal data
- Ask what information is held about them
- Opt out of eligible forms of processing
- Request correction of inaccurate information
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. A changed version will appear here with a new effective date, so visitors may return to review current handling practices.
Effective date: August 11, 2026
